Author Chris Hedges on Trump, the Democrats and the dying American empire Impeaching Trump without addressing America's deeper structural problems, says Hedges, will only make things worse "The United States is sick with income and other forms of social inequality. It suffers from cruelty, loneliness, greed, gangster capitalism, white supremacy, violence, sexism and a culture of ignorance and distraction. Our broken political system does not encourage critical thinking or nurture a capacity for responsible, engaged citizenship. Trump is the human embodiment of almost everything wrong with American society. He is both the symptom and the disease. Trump and the Republican Party’s fascist movement and its news media and supporters are America’s problems given life as social and political chaos and destruction on a massive scale. Even reality and the truth have not been spared this assault. Philosopher, journalist and cultural critic Chris Hedges warns that impeaching Trump will not save American democracy from these problems. In this wide-ranging conversation Hedges also explains how Trumpism, right-wing evangelical Christianity and white supremacist groups are the types of death cults that dying empires inevitably produce. Hedges also discusses the impeachment of President Trump and the 2020 campaign, warning that he sees Sen. Elizabeth Warren as a Republican-lite who cannot be trusted to create substantive social and political reform in America because she is beholden to corporations and the rich. A transcript of the conversation, included in the linked article, has been edited for length and clarity. You can also listen to the full conversation through the embedded audio player." www.salon.com/2019/12/09/author-chris-hedges-on-trump-the-democrats-and-the-dying-american-empire/

3,395 deaths from terrorism in he UK between now and 1970 From extrapolated data 120,000 as a result of Tory austerity between 2010 and 2017! Not much of a way you can spin that!

"Someone on Channel 4 news last night said that the NHS crisis is because Gordon Brown used PFIs to rebuild hospitals. Many of our hospitals still looked like Victorian workhouses and any work updating had included a high level of asbestos. Gordon Brown was fully aware of deaths caused by asbestos and he intended to get rid of the problem. Unfortunately, Treasury would not loan money to rebuild hospitals and Gordon Brown had no option but to use PFIs (introduced by John Major). Geo Osborne, when in opposition, criticised the use of PFIs but when he became Chancellor of Exchequer he continued with another 61 projects using PFIs at an even higher rate of interest." www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-45561384

30 REASONS NOT TO VOTE CONSERVATIVE IN THE 2019 GENERAL ELECTION Posted on December 7, 2019 by election2k19 Two years on from the last general election, we have what the Americans would call a mid-term – a chance to correct our course. Yet after nearly 10 years of Tory government, it can be hard to remember everything that’s happened. The broad points are obvious – austerity, NHS, Grenfell – but the details get lost in the fog. election2k19.home.blog/2019/12/07/conservatives-2019-general-election/
