Of course there's a contradiction there, in implying the job is stressful because of patients to get the service, and then turning round and saying it's the system that is the problem, and it stigmatizes the mentally ill. I just think a counselling service for staff would be more likely in the current climate than any more empathy or comprehensive help for patients. Imagine a far more ideal society / system & far more appropriate & comprehensive mental health care system. Within a far healthier society i can imagine a lot of mental health issues wouldn't exist in the first place - & what did i think could be far better treated at far less personal, social & monetary cost. So much of the current system seems to be such a false economy. Done properly i think that Open Dialogue / Soteria type approaches are effective. This is part of what has always seemed so insane to me about it all & a lot of the current society / system around it all - there are ways of treating people far better that over the longer term would have far less social / economic & personal costs, but instead we have to carry on with all the current system / treatment. It's mad.

Yes some mh trusts are dead set against something like Open Dialogue. But then for a start it relies less on the medical model and the service user is treated more like an equal and is fully involved in agreeing what treatment they receive. There is less of a power imbalance and that is bound to be an improvement, but the pharmaceutical companies will miss out and the idea of patients having a say in what happens to them will not sit well with anyone who thinks the current Westernized system is the best there is. A lot of people seem to think West is best when it clearly isn't (with many things).
Politics and religion might have been invented to improve society but they have just become tools used to oppress people.
