Yes, in the sense of reclaiming it from the medical psychiatric ideology which identifies madness with brain disease.
But not in the sense of implying that there are no real drawbacks to being mad (or "mentally ill" in general).

No, don't bother (unless you're talking about the pop group, which I know you're not!)The word has got way too much baggage attached.
Why not focus instead on the word "recovery", which I like a lot better. Not to mention "holistic."
