Az: Revenge of an Archangel (Azrail - The Angel of Death Chronicles Book 1)
by A. A. Bavar (Author), Sarah Bavar (Illustrator), Natalie Bavar (Editor)
"I killed a mortal for revenge. As an archangel, it was the one thing I was forbidden to do.
My name is Azrail, the Angel of Death. Yes, I am the last thing you see before you die, but no, not the way you imagine it. The blade of my scythe is reserved to cut down the devil, and him alone.
For millennia, I searched for the good in Man, any reason to justify offering souls a last chance at redemption. All I found was war, famine, pride, and greed. There was nothing to lighten my days, to quench my disappointment and penetrate the void that threatened to devour me. There was no lighted candle to find, and all I could do was curse the darkness.
I reveled in defying Lucifer, fighting him at every corner for his prized possession, Man's soul. But fire burns, and I'm living proof of the scars it leaves behind. However, I'm not one to give up. So, was it so wrong to persist and finally find meaning in life? To find Kay... that little girl who showed me the light that still burns in humanity? That all is not lost, that my sole purpose for being has meaning?
But with love comes vulnerability, and Lucifer used it without remorse. He extinguished my light, and for that I wanted revenge like never before. Over the course of history, we had dueled and fought. I had won many battles, but now I lost the war. He used Kay to bait me, and I didn't care. All I wanted was a last fight, my final revenge.
If you think that angels are immortal, then think again. I am the Angel of Death and this is my story."
