I think this is aimed very much at some African and Asian countries, where the mentally ill are still chained up or even caged while in extreme states. That would certainly qualify as forced treatment, I believe.
That’s not to say that holding disturbed people in police cells is not bad practice. I recall some time ago there was an initiative to make special training available to the police, or some kind of trained professional, to oversee how they coped with people with a mental health condition. But there is a question as to what the alternative is, what do you do with people who go far outside the regular norms.

But there is a question as to what the alternative is, what do you do with people who go far outside the regular norms. It is a difficult topic but my problem with forced treatment is that people get tarred with the same brush, even if they are only refusing treatment as well as if they are at the more extreme end of behaviour. There should be choice tailored to the individual and not so much treatment based on fear.

This is part of the whole debate as to what approaches / treatments are best & effective.

No I never have... I avoided being sectioned during my psychosis, and the authorities were happy to leave me in the care of my mother. So I guess I lack some perspective.
