I’m not sure if I entirely agree with the split between knowing ourselves as part of the natural world and knowing ourselves as part of the historical community of humans. It seems to me these two must overlap, that there is a single state which is part of our interaction with the natural world which is enhanced by our also having a social context and being able to learn from other humans.
