HEALING SANCTUARY
The Healing Sanctuary aims to provide a place for discussion and mutual support for people experiencing, or connected to those who have mental health experiences, and to be open to all aspects, perspectives and understandings of these experiences/conditions. The Healing Sanctuary also aims to provide as much in the way of resources and relevant information as possible. The project in essence aims to be an open discussion platform and a resource and information hub. To provide a place for the discussion and potential healing and understanding of mental, emotional and spiritual confusion and distress.
This project is autonomous, non-professional (although professionals are very welcome), non-profit, and independently run by volunteers. It has no affiliations to any outside agencies.
This project is initially at a trial and experimental stage. A forum has been designed and is being run. At some stage the aim will be to start up a more substantial forum/web site, hosted by 'Zen Internet', and using php forum software; with increased functionality for members. It is intended to keep the project add free (although the current forum is hosted using a free service (pro boards), & there may be some advertising present on the forum at times (although this can be removed with payments).
Organic growth, with no pressures or expectations of any kind is aimed for – and the primary focus is on as therapeutic and healing an environment as is possible (given the constraints of the current medium for the project being the internet).
All future plans for this project will depend on interest generated & resources available.

Mission statement
A whole person Approach to Healing and Wholeness in Experiences of Mental, Emotional and Spiritual Confusion and Distress. To provide as safe and supportive a place as possible for people to go into, work through and explore their experiences in as much or as little depth as they are comfortable, with access to as wide a range of resources and information as possible.
The aim of this Forum is to explore and approach Anomalous/non-ordinary states of Being* From more individual, subjective, and holistic understandings and perspectives; in the context of the individuals life and experiences. Acknowledging the spiritual/transpersonal, as well as psychological, social, inter-personal, environmental, mythological and other understandings and perspectives to their lives, experiences and conditions. To validate, authenticate and discover as much as possible.
[*Those experiences that often gets labelled/diagnosed as psychosis, schizophrenia, bi-polar, depression, addiction/dual diagnosis, and personality disorder etc]
The individual and unique nature of peoples make ups, lives and experiences is paramount in this exploration. And the often meaningful and mysterious aspects of these states of Being is fully appreciated and understood; in that often these subjects touch very heavily on the questions of the meaning and mystery of Consciousness, the meaning and mystery of the Self, the meaning and mystery of the Human Heart, and the meaning and mysteries of Life.
This forum operates with a neutral viewpoint toward psychopharmacology (medications). It is fully acknowledged that each human is an individual and will find different approaches helpful in each case. It is fully acknowledged that medications can and often do play an important role in peoples recovery; but also that people have the right (regardless of having/not having 'labels and prescriptions' to explore and approach these issues in any way that they wish, and every right to be intelligently critical of the current paradigms of mental health treatments, and any other approach to these areas.
Clearly laid out Support and Debate areas; will enable those that wish for in depth debate and discussion a dedicated area to do so. and so too those who wish primarily to find support will have a dedicated space to do so also.
Primary focus on open healing, therapeutic and as inclusive and expansive a range of all potential understandings and approaches in these areas; from more mainstream to more alternative understandings; that can be used to assist the individual for their own search for meaning, wholeness and healing. From conventional psychopathology; science, psychiatry, psychology and neurology; to – epigenetics, brain plasticity, morphic fields and morphic resonance, prenatal and perinatal experiences, early brain development, family dynamics, wider social, environmental and cultural influences, communication and language theory (inc double bind), inter-personal relationships, all types of energy work, Esoteric/Depth/Jungian/Transpersonal psychology, Eastern and Western Spirituality, Mysticism, Spiritual Emergence/Emergency, Healing Crisis, Shamanic (and other older/tribal/indigenous) perspectives, New Age, Consciousness Studies, Religious Experiences, Past Life/Inter Life areas, Stress and Trauma, Plato/Neoplatonism, Self Realisation – Actualisation - Individualisation; in fact anything and everything in the different realms of the human experience/condition that helps with exploring and helping to understand and resolve states of 'madness'.
[The above list is far from exhaustive; and examples, information, resources and areas of research/authors/books and web sites will be given for each category]
The Emphasis in all these areas is that the healing aspects of the sanctuary is its openness to all approaches to healing, both conventional and unconventional, and that people are allowed to find their own way, which is a healing thing in itself. It is fully acknowledged that people experience psychopathology (illness), and people are free to discuss their experiences in those terms. The option/framework is however open to discuss things in non-biomedical/non-psychiatric/non-diagnostic language, perspectives and understandings (if people so choose). The main focus is to promote as much as possible; recovery, wellness, healing, resolution and wholeness; but not to the exclusion of the full allowance of people to fully be where they may be at in their own journeys and experiences. There are no expectations or pressures of any kind on people to be any particular way.

DISCLAIMER
This site does not align itself to any one political, religious, spiritual, philosophical, medical or cultural system or bias. Given the evolving and differing natures of understandings, care and treatment of mental health issues and the wide-ranging benefits of different treatments in individuals, the non-professional nature of this site is such that individual perspectives are purely individual opinions. Medical advice is best sought from medical professionals and it is acknowledged that different people are helped by different practices. Orthodox medical treatment, although helpful to many is not the only or exclusive method of accessing help.
