I suppose you have to walk the line between allowing the subject to be aired but acting swiftly when it becomes proselytising for example.
I thought Chimera left the forum because of interpreting something that was said as personally aimed at him? That was the idea I got.
Lets just ban discussion of antipsychotics as it is boring and divisive :-)

Research on Religion, Spirituality, and Mental Health: A Review

Spirituality 'link' to mental illness Wednesday 2 January 2013
“Spiritual people are more likely to be mentally ill”, the Daily Mail reports.
The above is taken from this very section, spiritual approaches - and if it has truth then it is an example of how discussions on the subject are going to pop up on a mental health based forum, because some of the people who may be unwell are already interested in the topic at the least.
One of many explanations.

As i posted above - 'no one' is going to agree on any mental health areas.
No one is going to agree on ontological / phenomenological areas as everyone is a unique individual & there is no way of categorically knowing what someone else has / does experience.
The only way i see of resolving all this is with a highly comprehensive integral model & approach; that i think we are another 200 years off having, if we even do have such a model / approach, of course millions of other people will disagree.
No point in me endlessly repeating my own subjective perspective / opinion / experience on it all. The internet, designed to bring humanity together, has also been disastrous & caused a lot of division. On any subject area there is a argument & counter argument, you can find links / information / research / studies to back up any opinion / position.
i tried with my campaigning & this project / forum - it has really gone nowhere. It's pointless to carry on flogging a dead horse.
i don't know what was going on with Chimera? i don't know him, he seemed furious with the way i posted & with me trying to explain my illness / condition. Again, i don't see the point in continuing in the same way with all this forum / project / campaigning / internet use. If yourself / others can do better with it all then do so - set up your own forum on psychosis & spirituality, & campaign for spirituality to be acknowledged by psychiatry if you feel that strongly about it all.

I see what you are saying.
I also don't know what upset Chimera.
Come on Admin, I have been a supporter of this forum since the start - forums need that as well as Admins, no need for a low blow.

Just because we disagree on this subject.

Come on Admin, I have been a supporter of this forum since the start - forums need that as well as Admins, no need for a low blow. i don't see the point in this forum / project any more? i think i have largely wasted a lot of time over the past 20 years of using the internet. There are countless mental health forums / mental health projects / mental health & religion / spirituality groups. There is no point in me collecting articles from the internet & posting them here that anyone can look up. There is no point in me always saying the same things, having the same circular / polemical debates / arguments - it is utterly pointless. Was close to deleting this forum & my fb page. Time for me to try & do more of other things & forget about all this as best as possible.

Ok, understood, but that is a different discussion to the one we started which was about no further comment allowed on the spirituality subject outlined above.
I know you could delete the forum, hope you don't because it was a lot of work, but they are different matters in my opinion.

I know you could delete the forum, hope you don't because it was a lot of work, but they are different matters in my opinion. i have made my decision on this - i'm banning all religious / spirituality discussion on this forum - it is too personal / divisive & not conducive to good mental health.

Well, I hope it has the desired effect and as I said fair enough.

Well, I hope it has the desired effect and as I said fair enough. Anything to do with religion / spirituality / metaphysics is just so subjective & undefinable. Can see why we had the European Enlightenment / scientific Revolution

Have to laugh but you have already broken the new rule with a post on New Age and Neopagan Magic, surely? :-) Admittedly it is not here in spiritual approaches - !

Have to laugh but you have already broken the new rule with a post on New Age and Neopagan Magic, surely? :-) Admittedly it is not here in spiritual approaches - ! i suppose so - but then everything outside of a hard science / materialist viewpoint is open to subjective interpretation. Still waiting for suggestions as to how this area / issue is resolved? Especially in relation to health & social issues / mental illness? When no one else has been able to resolve all these areas. As i said - they are simply banning this debate / area from a lot of schizophrenia groups - i read a very interesting account where within the old asylum system they would ban / remove all religious / spiritual books & artefacts / references for psychotic patients suffering religious delusions. There is a local new age shop that i used to go in a lot - the proprietor is open to all religions / spirituality / magick etc, & is very highly knowledgeable - the arguments he was getting from people in the shop used to drive him nuts - arguments about whether God is male or female, people anti / pro Christian, arguing over all these areas etc. There was at one time a Pagan / Witch Shop, a Buddhist Shop, a Christian shop (you can imagine what the proprietor's attitude was to the other shops), an Illuminati esoteric / occult book shop, & a science shop, all competing & arguing with each other - it's fucking nuts. Lets discuss it all about what you suggest be done about all this area?

Best to live and let live and if people want to condemn others for their beliefs then that is crossing a line of disrespect and possibly hurt or upset. & how many times have you & other Christians put down Atheism / Paganism / Magick / New Age / Eastern Philosophy & the Self realization teachings etc? It's part of the Christian religion to state that Christ is God, the only way to God is Christ, that the Bible is the Word of God, & that the esoteric / occult / magick / Pagan etc areas & other religions are fundamentally wrong. It is part of Christianity to convert others to a belief in Christ, & that anyone that doesn't agree is going to Hell, as well as other beliefs concerning Satan / Demons & the Apocalypse etc. How do you suggest that Atheism / Humanism can coexist with all 7 major World Religions & how they can all coexist, & all spiritual 'systems'? You are going to get arguments / disagreements same as you do with everything else, as a lot of these areas are incompatible, especially regarding traditionalism, fundamentalism & extremism. A lot of people see their mental illness as a biological condition, are Atheist / materialist / Nihilist - they don't see anything religious / spiritual in any of it or in life / existence. Other people see their condition as spiritual crisis, & in non religious spirituality or religious terms. Some people see their or other people's condition in wholly religious / spiritual terms, or in wholly non religious / Atheist terms. Some people see that they have a mental illness & find non religious spirituality, the new age, magick, or one of the World religions helpful. Etc. There simply is a lot of argument between Atheism & the World religions / spirituality - there is argument between the 7 major World religions, there is argument between World religions & the new age, paganism, magick, non religious spirituality & other areas of spirituality. Same as there is all the argument within politics, socioeconomics, between generations, races, LGBT, disability, & nations, etc i don't see how you resolve it all? A Christian (& other religions) have certain beliefs which are incompatible with other religions / spiritual 'systems'.

I think the trigger problem is a big issue.
I don't even mind if religion/spirituality is not discussed - my observation is that mentions of these subjects have popped up all over the forum really in the past and will no doubt continue in a small way to do so because it reaches into different subjects, so an outright ban is not wholly effective anyway.
For mental health forum users though there can be all sorts of triggers - I dislike mentions of ECT but just don't read them.
I can't solve religious differences, it's part of being in different tribes who all think they are right - just don't make the mistake that because a post is in occult books/mythology rather than spiritual approaches it doesn't have the capacity to trigger someone.
Where does it all end?
