So I thought we should have a thread on movies and how we relate to them. I always like to share the nice things I find, and they are a creative endeavour, so they kind of fit here.
I find it tremendously interesting how we relate to the medium of film and tv, in a way we import experiences into our lives which we would never have had a chance to truly live through. You could argue these are not 'truthful', not truly our lived experience, so perhaps don't deserve to be treated in our lives with the same seriousness and intensity as say the memories of an adventure holiday, but on the other hand, the spectacle and immersiveness of movies as an experience means that for many people they are some of the most intense things that happen to them on a day to day basis. It's worth thinking about what they mean...
Anyway yesterday I was watching the BBC series Patagonia: Earth's Secret Paradise, and I've very much enjoyed it. The narrator's voice is quiet and perfectly suited to recounting the action, and I thought the music was well-chosen. It's a very beautiful part of the world. Parts two and three are showing this afternoon and tomorrow on BBC2.

Not very cerebral but I love the way they get one over on their school bullies. At the end they escape their crappy home town too.
It's more of a 'chick flick' to be honest, but at the time I saw it I was not long out of scholl and I really identified with it.

I was just watching this tonight, it's a gentle and magical movie, very enjoyable. It's probably the least adventurous of all the Studio Ghobli films but it has tremendous charm...

Last night I was watching the Hobbit, it is one of the favourite films of my mother and stepfather who are visiting at the moment. We had a very interesting discussion about which was the better trilogy of films, The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit is more personal, more of an adventure, while The Lord of the Rings is an epic tale with grandeur and a great conflict. I find it hard to say which I like better.

Great! I'm a believer in the Studio Ghibli films for children, they're very good and adventurous with a lot of strong female characters. Modern fairy tales with a unique flavour, I particularly like Spirited Away, I thought that was wonderful.

----------------- How i relate to the movie
the first pet that i owned [personally] was a guinea pig..... i love them, they are so sweet & gentle. wanted to get some during my last really 'mad' phase i wanted to get a muddle of 5 female guinea pigs..... it seems a wishful 'dream' only, or maybe a future reality x
