Callout for participants in trial on helpfulness of access to mental health recovery stories A new interactive website which provides online access to mental health recovery stories has been launched by Nottingham University. Hundreds of stories have been collected from around the world, in text, video and audio form, and preliminary evidence suggests that these stories can help people feel connected to others including the storyteller. We are now starting three online trials of this website, and looking to recruit people with experience of psychosis, other kinds of mental health problems, and informal carers. · These trials don’t require any face to face contact · There is no need to visit the health service · People can take part from home, purely online · Usage is self-guided, done any time – people can use it as little or as much as they want Find out more and sign up for free at recoverystories.uk/

These sort of recovery stories can be very encouraging, especially in the early days of illness.
Though there should be a balance with stories that reflect how difficult it is to get to a stage of recovery, it's more the ongoing struggle and coping with that, which is the real story and way it is for many people.

Yeah, kind of begs the question as to how many of the recovery stories on there already are a full recovery - what is recovery?

I wonder if I should share. Yeah, kind of begs the question as to how many of the recovery stories on there already are a full recovery - what is recovery? I do feel recovered. I am wondering how to explain that without unintentionally discouraging others. All I know is that after the worst year of my life, I feel like I understand my purpose. And I feel loved. I would have to explain the dark period. Just how dark it was.

So many different ideas / aspects on it all - Mental health as nothing to recover from - Mad Pride - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mad_PrideCo opted recovery agenda makes recovery meaningless - Recovery in the Bin A critical theorist and activist collective. recoveryinthebin.org/Mental illness as potentially transformative psychological / spiritual crisis - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiritual_crisisSome people hold the idea that mental illness doesn't exist & so there is nothing to recover from - often involve traumagenic models. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-psychiatry

Also, on a very practical level, is recovery sometimes seen as no further contact with mh services by some people - because recovery is far more complicated than that.
Not to mention all the people kicked off the books due to lack of funding and cut offs e.g. after 3 years of Early Intervention.

I once tried to explain some experiences to a researcher and ended up having another episode shortly after - sometimes explaining is not the best strategy, moving forward is - but that's me.

Yes, and on the subject of that, I hope no one ever misunderstands or conflates somehow that the ability to type and debate on a forum/this forum means there is recovery. Plenty of people would be too ill to type on this forum at different times as well.
