i like collecting things - i think this forum is part of it all, categorising different areas of information / subjects.
i make 'little' collections of stuff & then often give it all away. i used to make, fix & tinker with computers a lot, any discarded computer equipment i found in the street / etc i would take apart / cannibalise & make use of the components - people would give me their old computers as well. i ended up with boxes of electronics / computer components, & a load of computers. Gave it all away & all the computers.
i amassed a lot of crystals - kept giving them away, wish that i had kept more of them now. Different decks of playing cards, tarot & other divination cards - gave most of them away.
Books - have currently collected over 1 thousand books again.
Dice - i have a large bowl of them.
Chess pieces / boards.
Over recent years i was building a fair amount of lego kits, it was a good distraction - gave it all to a family friend for her kids.
Rife & Radionic machines. Have also built them.
Tools & fixings (screws, nuts & bolts etc).
Odd ornaments & 'trinkets'.
Electronic instruments.
All sorts.
Isn't this what humans do though - especially within an Age of scientific materialism, industrialisation, capitalism & consumerism. Gather & catalogue information & objects / things / life.
It's been observed within the lives of chronic / very severe cases of mental illness / homelessness that people will make odd collections of things that they find, & theorised that it is to feel some kind of connection with humanity / civilisation. Maybe there is something similar going on with hoarding? The whole prepping phenomena is very interesting as well. i knew a guy with severe schizophrenia who used to collect a lot of discarded car hub caps. A female friend i know collects a lot of clothes, but i don't suppose that is unusual?
So much of all of this stuff that we don't actually need.
