NAO action on suicides ‘could be long-awaited recognition of deaths caused by DWP’ By John Pring on 24th October 2019 Category: Benefits and Poverty A watchdog’s decision to question the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) about the information it holds on benefit-related suicides could be a long-awaited recognition of the damage caused by the government’s policies, say disabled activists. They spoke out after the National Audit Office (NAO) confirmed that it would seek information from DWP about what records it holds on suicides linked by coroners to its actions. The watchdog decided to act after Justin Tomlinson, the minister for disabled people, claimed in a parliamentary answer that it would be too expensive to produce such information. www.disabilitynewsservice.com/nao-action-on-suicides-could-be-long-awaited-recognition-of-deaths-caused-by-dwp/

From October 2019 “The Reclaiming Our Futures Alliance (ROFA) is carrying out a consultation with members across England on a draft Disabled People’s Manifesto, so a final version can be ready in time for an election that most commentators believe will be called within months. The ROFA manifesto can then be compared with the disability policies included by parties in their general election manifestos. ROFA is an alliance of disabled people and their organisations, including Sisters of Frida, Inclusion London, The Alliance for Inclusive Education, Disabled People Against Cuts, the Trade Union Disability Alliance, People First (Self Advocacy), Change, and Equal Lives.” www.disabilitynewsservice.com/rofas-draft-manifesto-calls-for-end-to-austerity-and-a-right-to-independent-living/

Share with anyone who might vote for the Conservatives. Tory voters might not agree with us on Brexit, but surely they can agree that this governments treatment of sick and disabled people means they are not fit to be in power. "The Tory government's own figures admit that thousands of disabled people have died within six weeks of being declared "fit for work" and stripped of their disability benefits by the Work Capacity Assessment (WCA) regime." "An incredible 420,000 disabled people were hit by the Tory 'Bedroom Tax', many of them for "spare" rooms used for medical equipment, or for carers to sleep in. The financial stress caused Stephanie Bottrill to commit suicide leaving a note blaming David Cameron and the Tory government." anotherangryvoice.blogspot.com/2017/11/voting-tory-is-endorsement-of-their.html
