The FakeNews Factory: Tales from BBC-land by David Sedgwick www.davidsedgwick.co.uk/the-fake-news-factory.html "What is happening to the BBC? As of 2020, fewer people than ever trust the 'British' Broadcasting Corporation to tell the truth. Accusations of bias and fake news reverberate inside and outside of social media tarnishing the name of this once respected brand.Every minute of every day the BBC production line is hard at work. A finely-tuned machine, Britain's publicly-funded state broadcaster pumps out an enormous amount of content much of which attempts to mislead, unnerve and inflame the audience. Encompassing its coverage of Trump, Brexit, climate change, Syria and everything in between, there is nothing spontaneous about BBC propaganda. It is constructed to achieve specific goals. The Fake News Factory promises to blow the lid off what has become a radical, political agenda.Unable to modify its playbook by a single degree however, the corporation faces an existential crisis. More hated than loved, the BBC unravels in front of our eyes. Audiences deserting in record numbers just how does the BBC manage to retain its pre-eminent position within the UK media landscape? Using myriad examples of unethical practice in this sequel to his acclaimed BBC: Brainwashing Britain? David Sedgwick takes the reader on a disturbing journey into the very heart of dishonesty." Eleven Tactics Used by the MSM to Manufacture Consent for the Oligarchy February 18, 2020 www.thelibertybeacon.com/eleven-tactics-used-by-the-msm-to-manufacture-consent-for-the-oligarchy/~ Manufacturing Consent ~ Propaganda 101 ~ How its Done ~ 1. Lying by Omission – What is not on the nightly news? 2. Controlling the Debate – Who is arguing, and for what cause? 3. Selecting the Right Anchors, Casters and Presenters – 4. Scripting and Synchronizing News – 5. Politicizing Everything – Language is the greatest weapon of social control 6. Using the Language of Separation and Labels – Sometime in the 1990’s, the mainstream media stopped referring to people as ‘people’ or even as ‘citizens’ and began calling everyone ‘consumers.’ 7. Asking the Wrong Questions – Press access to ‘important’ people in our society is tightly regulated, and the powers that be don’t like to be confronted with unexpected and hard questions 8. Closing the Book Too Soon – Moving an important or complicated issue from the front page as quickly as possible is a common strategy to remove touchy subjects from the public conversation. Sadly, our national attention span is at an all time low, mostly because we’ve been trained to move from issue to issue with lightening speed, never soaking up any one thing for too long. 9. Triviality and Distraction – With all of the important decisions being made daily by powerful people, decisions that genuinely affect quality of life for many people, the news outlets are steadfastly devoted to engaging in gossip, entertainment, murders and acts of violence, car accidents, disasters and other pablum. 10. Outright Lying – When all else fails, just lie, make it up as you go along, sell your air time to the highest bidder, and never look back. In the internet age, people are pretty keen on fact checking, rebutting, arguing, and gathering stats, and there are enough facts available to prove any side to any story. In fact, this has become an art form for major media, and the ability to gather facts in accordance with an agenda is a profitable skill for the mainstream media. Lying has always worked, and the bigger the lie, the more likely it is to be believed. 11. Bonus – Eye Candy and Mind Melting – This one is a bonus and part of the new era of network news. Rather than employ virtuous gumshoes and hardcore reporters of truth, mainstream media instead invests in graphic artists to make each frame of the broadcast an over-designed motion collage of brain-melting info overload. Staying focused on what the anchor or guest is actually saying is impossible. By design, the news is presented in a mad shotgun blast of competing signals, and your attention is split in ten directions with tickers, bubbles, stock footage, gyrating lights and special effects. The point here is to exhaust the mind with over-stimulation so that the brain cannot function methodically and cannot process an issue beyond the shallow surface. This is also known as hypnotism, or mind-control.

"Those that we call the rulling elite, the 1%, the illuminati. The people who control the media, the pharmaceutical industry, the weapons industry. They fully understand how this universe works. They have access to ancient knowledge that has been hidden from the masses for centuries. They know that everything in this world is a manifestation of the collective human mind. They know that what we focus on most becomes the global reality. This is why they control the media and also why the media constantly spews the worst stories keeping us all in fear for our lives so we'll look to our governments (who are controlled by these billionaire businessmen) to find us a solution. The solution never really comes though does it? Just more restrictions, more fear, more wars and artificial global pandemics. When i say these people own the media i mean they control almost all of the information on this planet. Thats why the movie and the video game industries are filled with images of murder, horror, global catastrophes, apocalyptic future scenarios, GLOBAL PANDEMICS!
Surely it's becoming obvious now what's going on. What we give our attention too, what we focus on most becomes our reality. This is not supernatural nonsense, this is high level quantum physics and the evidence is everywhere except in the controlled media. We create our reality with our minds and a relative few human beings with a very twisted agenda are trying to lead the world into into a very dark future by keeping our attention on their bullshit, manufactured global catastrophes, and the craziest thing of all about this is all we have to do to stop them is stop paying attention, simple as that. It may not seem like it right now but the world is actually improving. That's not the impression you get if you watch the news though eh? They take the very worst aspects of society and ram them in your face on a daily basis and forget to show you all the good that's happening because it doesn't serve their twisted agenda. These people have no real power and they now it. The power lies with us and how we choose to react to their bullshit manufactured scenarios and made up stories."

Global Media, Neoliberalism, and Imperialism by Robert W. McChesney monthlyreview.org/2001/03/01/global-media-neoliberalism-and-imperialism/In conventional parlance, the current era in history is generally characterized as one of globalization, technological revolution, and democratization. In all three of these areas media and communication play a central, perhaps even a defining, role. Economic and cultural globalization arguably would be impossible without a global commercial media system to promote global markets and to encourage consumer values. The very essence of the technological revolution is the radical development in digital communication and computing. The argument that the bad old days of police states and authoritarian regimes are unlikely to return is premised on the claims that new communication technologies along with global markets undermine, even eliminate, the capacity for “maximum leaders” to rule with impunity.

American Pravda: My Fight for Truth in the Era of Fake News by James O'Keefe
"The one real difference between the American press and the Soviet state newspaper Pravda was that the Russian people knew they were being lied to. To expose the lies our media tell us today, controversial journalist James O’Keefe created Project Veritas, an independent news organization whose reporters go where traditional journalists dare not. Their investigative work–equal parts James Bond, Mike Wallace, and Saul Alinsky has had a consistent and powerful impact on its targets.
In American Pravda, the reader is invited to go undercover with these intrepid journalists as they infiltrate political campaigns, unmask dishonest officials and expose voter fraud. A rollicking adventure story on one level, the book also serves as a treatise on modern media, arguing that establishment journalists have a vested interest in keeping the powerful comfortable and the people misinformed.
The book not only contests the false narratives frequently put forth by corporate media, it documents the consequences of telling the truth in a world that does not necessarily want to hear it. O’Keefe’s enemies attack with lawsuits, smear campaigns, political prosecutions, and false charges in an effort to shut down Project Veritas. For O’Keefe, every one of these attacks is a sign of success.
American Pravda puts the myths and misconceptions surrounding O’Keefe’s activities to rest and will make you rethink every word you hear and read in the so-called mainstream press."

Wikipedia: A Disinformation Operation? swprs.org/wikipedia-disinformation-operation/"Wikipedia is generally thought of as an open, transparent, and mostly reliable online encyclopedia. Yet upon closer inspection, this turns out not to be the case. In fact, the English Wikipedia with its 9 billion worldwide page views per month is governed by just 500 active administrators, whose real identity in many cases remains unknown. Moreover, studies have shown that 80% of all Wikipedia content is written by just 1% of all Wikipedia editors, which again amounts to just a few hundred mostly unknown people. Obviously, such a non-transparent and hierarchical structure is susceptible to corruption and manipulation, the notorious “paid editors” hired by corporations being just one example. Indeed, already in 2007, researchers found that CIA and FBI employees were editing Wikipedia articles on controversial topics including the Iraq war and the Guantanamo military prison. Also in 2007, researchers found that one of the most active and influential English Wikipedia administrators, called “Slim Virgin”, was in fact a former British intelligence informer. More recently, another highly prolific Wikipedia editor going by the name of “Philip Cross” turned out to be linked to UK intelligence as well as several mainstream media journalists. In Germany, one of the most aggressive Wikipedia editors was exposed, after a two-year legal battle, as a political operative formerly serving in the Israeli army as a foreign volunteer. Even in Switzerland, unidentified government employees were caught whitewashing Wikipedia entries about the Swiss secret service just prior to a public referendum about the agency. Many of these Wikipedia personae are editing articles almost all day and every day, indicating that they are either highly dedicated individuals, or in fact, operated by a group of people. In addition, articles edited by these personae cannot easily be revised, since the above-mentioned administrators can always revert changes or simply block disagreeing users altogether. The primary goal of these covert campaigns appears to be pushing Western and Israeli government positions while destroying the reputation of independent journalists and politicians. Articles most affected by this kind of manipulation include political, geopolitical and certain historical topics as well as biographies of non-conformist academics, journalists, and politicians. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, a friend of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and a “Young Leader” of the Davos forum, has repeatedly defended these operations. Speaking of Davos, Wikimedia has itself amassed a fortune of more than $160 million, donated in large part not by lazy students, but by major US corporations and influential foundations. The current Wikimedia CEO, Katherine Maher, previously worked at the US Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) as well as at a subgroup of the US National Endowment for Democracy (NED). Moreover, US social media and video platforms are increasingly referring to Wikipedia to frame or combat “controversial” topics. The revelations discussed above may perhaps help explain why."

Excerpt from “Free Speech” In The US Empire Is As Illusory As “Free-Range” Eggs: The persecution of Julian Assange is a transparent and iron-fisted attempt by the US government to globally criminalize the publication of leaks which embarrass the US-centralized empire, thereby drawing a firm line which journalists all around the world know never to cross. This is the inverted totalitarian oligarchic empire at its most overtly tyrannical. The imprisonment of Assange was the part of the movie where the villain finally reveals their true face for the monster they've always been, where it became clear to anyone paying attention that the US power alliance is as authoritarian and intolerant of real dissent as any tin pot dictator. But this is the rarest form of imperial censorship. Normally, wherever possible, the power structures which dominate human civilization prefer to do so out of sight and out of mind, ideally having the inmates of the prison serve as their own wardens. Aaron Maté, who as my regular readers already know is one of my favorite journalists on the planet right now, has an interesting new post on Twitter which reads (emphasis my own): "It's incredible to see book after book churn out the same discredited Russiagate hype. When I talked to an editor at a major publisher about doing a book -- you know, based on actual facts -- they told me their friends would be mad at them if they published it, so that was it." “Free Speech” In The US Empire Is As Illusory As “Free-Range” Eggs medium.com/@caityjohnstone/free-speech-in-the-us-empire-is-as-illusory-as-free-range-eggs-60b13bc1b561

Truly Shameful BBC Israeli Propaganda www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2020/06/truly-shameful-bbc-israeli-propaganda/In a genuinely outrageous piece of victim blaming, BBC News just blamed Palestinian intransigence in refusing to accept Israeli annexation of the West Bank for the deaths of Palestinian children caused by the Israeli blockade of medical supplies to Gaza. This is a precise quote from the BBC TV News presenter headline at 10.30am: “The lives of hundreds of sick Palestinian children are being put at risk because of the latest downturn in relations between their leaders and Israel last month. The Palestinian President said his government was giving up on past peace agreements because of Israeli plans to annex parts of the West Bank. That decision stopped co-operation on many security and civil matters including medical and travel permits.” There followed a heart rending piece by BBC Middle East correspondent Yolande Knell featuring Palestinian children in Gaza dying of varous medical conditions and their distraught mothers. The entire piece very plainly blamed Palestinian officials for the situation. The BBC did not blame Israel for placing a blockade illegally preventing pharmaceuticals and medical supplies from entering Gaza – the basic reason the children cannot be treated at home. The BBC did not blame Israel for blockading in illegally the civilian population of Gaza, so that these children cannot freely leave for treatment in Europe without Israeli clearance. The BBC did not point out that the proposed annexation of the West Bank is illegal, has been condemned by the UN Secretary General and by 95% of the governments of the world, and will precipitate great violence. No, the BBC blamed the Palestinians. “Accept the illegal annexation of still more of your land, or small children will die and it will be your fault”. That is a line the BBC are perfectly happy to push out on behalf of Israel. It is an astonishing moment for the UK state propagandist. It is important we do not ourselves become complacent at this absolutely unacceptable behaviour.

Dark Side Of The Sun www.challengesni.com/post/dark-side-of-the-sun"Established in 1964, with a circulation of 1.2 million copies as of February 2020; but to describe The Sun newspaper as ‘a tabloid’ does little to explain the depths of hatred that some people, myself included, have for this publication. No doubt the best known and most notable trophy on the newspaper’s shelf of mistakes is the grotesque manner in which it covered the Hillsborough Disaster. With nearly 100 people killed at a football match as a result of gross negligence, many people might think to use their platform to express sympathies for everyone who lost a loved one. The Sun chose instead to launch a campaign of misinformation that sought to make criminals of the survivors and present Liverpool as little more than a zoo. Whilst the editor at the time did finally apologise forgiveness is still understandably sparse in Liverpool. However, The Sun as an institution seems to have failed to learn any lessons from this horrid affair. It continues to print inflammatory headlines to feed on the people’s worst instincts. Adopting a ‘happy days’ tone when lockdown was eased, which promoted a dangerous idea that lockdown was somehow over. With crowds already flouting lockdown rules, and people growing tired of the struggles of living through the pandemic, The Sun chose to throw caution to the wind with its coverage in exchange for a flashier front page. Of course, other papers behave in similar fashions, but as the second biggest paper by circulation, second only to The Metro (which hands out free copies to pedestrians, boosting its numbers), a reasonable person might expect a paper to act with more appreciation for the impact it could have. The paper didn’t hesitate to join in on the dogpile against Meghan Markle, who can apparently do no right in the eyes of the British tabloid press. While I do not understand appeal of following the personal lives of the Royal Family, the effect of the public interest is usually positive. Royal weddings, for example, have offered a welcome break from the tumultuous nature of political affairs these days. However, the vitriol aimed at Prince Harry’s wife has revealed an uglier side to the fascination with the Windsors. The Sun’s coverage of recent drama, alongside the reporting by other media, has played no small part in emboldening the breed of nationalism that we do not want to encourage. People who believe different cultures should never mix, people who can’t believe a ‘mere actress’ would dare to marry a prince, people who simply believe that white Britons are superior to the rest of the world. I’m not saying that every critic of Meghan Markle believes these things, but the media frenzy around her and her perceived missteps casts a stark contrast with the media treatment of Kate Middleton. Of course, it’s impossible to discuss what’s wrong with The Sun without mentioning Page 3. An archaic tradition that only further entrenches the objectification and oversexualisation of women. It’s a clever idea, I’ll admit. Putting right-wing opinions right beside topless girls is a rather simple way to make your agenda palatable and appealing to the working man. Simple, but disgraceful. The tactic is only a few steps away from getting a model to campaign for you and tell voters how ‘sexy’ they think Brexit is. It should come as no surprise to anyone who pays attention, appealing to our most primitive motivations is what tabloids do best. Whilst the actions I’ve mentioned so far should disgust or at least worry any right-minded person, they are not nearly as concerning as the man your money goes to when you buy The Sun. Rupert Murdoch. The media mogul who presided over the phone-hacking scandal and then denied any knowledge of the gross invasion of privacy that was uncovered when it was revealed that News of The World ‘journalists’ had hacked the phones of a murdered schoolgirl, victims of the 7/7 bombings and the families of soldiers who gave their lives for our country. All the while, Murdoch ‘exhibited wilful blindness’ according to a report by a Parliamentary Select Committee. Perhaps the most depressing aspect of this whole problem is that so many people still buy The Sun, when it’s wrongs are one internet search away. If we want to honestly believe that we are inherently good people, we need to stop buying the tabloids that ignore any context and nuance that even slightly challenges the narrative they want to present. Time and time again, these papers have proven that they will cast aside common decency for a scoop, and ignore the prejudices they’re feeding in order to turn a profit. Simply ask yourself: ‘What would you say if you knew that at least a million people would hear you? What would you do if you could influence the opinions of that many people?’ If you would try to improve society and behave with any degree of integrity, then I’m afraid you would not be fit to work at The Sun. The press is supposed to hold our leaders to account, to keep us informed of current affairs, and to promote the whole truth. Tabloids tend to be the antithesis of these principles. This all begs the question, “What can we do about it?” One option is a boycott of such outlets, their cheap imitation of discourse does little to inform anyone of anything helpful. Boycotting however means more than not buying the paper. Any online interaction (visiting the websites, sharing the articles on social media, etc.) leads to revenue for these newspapers. It’s also important to read more than one paper. The more publications you read, the closer you get to learning the full story, and if we stay informed, the influence of the tabloids shrinks as they can no longer control the way we see the world. But no matter what we do, we must not turn a blind eye to the shamelessness of these tabloids. The Sun is not the whole problem, but just as Churchill is arguably an effective shorthand for the brilliant national spirit that got us through the Second World War, I believe The Sun makes for a fitting example of everything that’s wrong with the Press today. David Lam is 21 and from Carrickfergus. He is studying Law at Dundee University and wants to get involved in local community activism after he graduates." #DavidLam

Since 2014, nearly 1,800 newspapers have closed while TV and radio stations continue to see widespread consolidation. Consolidation is the code-word for monopolisation, a tendency in capitalism detected by Karl Marx in the mid-nineteenth century and explained in Das Kapital. The decline of local newspapers also means that fraudulent news is spreading. It happens in the echo-chambers of Facebook and elsewhere as the mass-extinction event of print media continues. Know your Classic Propaganda Techniques, including... False Flag: Create a violent or offensive event or message in an opponent's name. Most people still do not know the proper definition of propaganda, which means "broadcast communication intended to affect the attitudes, beliefs and actions of its audience." The Roman Church created the first formally organized ministry of propaganda, to "propagate" beliefs and doctrines throughout regions under Church control. Many people have published lists of Classic Propaganda Techniques in support of "media literacy" training for both offensive (public relations, advertising, psyops) and defensive (social/political analysis and activism) purposes. My list presently includes 35 items. Some present as partially redundant, but when the student can identify those and describe how they are related to one another, he or she "will have learned." For instance, many propaganda techniques employ the Transfer principle. Interested? Grab a copy and get busy spotting real life examples. No one escapes the influence of propaganda, but those who do not actively study propaganda will be controlled by it.
