Prozac and the royal road to misery But the fact is that the approach to the numinous is the real therapy and in as much as you attain to the numinous experiences you are released from the curse of pathology. ~Carl Jung, Letters Vol. I, Page 377 "The French Lacanians report encountering an increasing number of analysands, in this this wasteland of meaning, amplified by the disruptive and relationally alienating technologies, such as the ironically named “social media”, gaming, virtual reality et al. and the ideological void post 9/11, suffering with “ordinary psychosis” This apocalyptic time or pseudo-apocalyptic, if you prefer, is also the subject and focus of the Marxist-Lacanian philosopher, Slavoj Žižek’s work. Žižek speaks of the four horsemen of the apocalypse: the worldwide ecological crisis; imbalances within the economic system; the biogenetic revolution; and exploding social divisions and ruptures. This apocalyptic theme is heavily constellated in the cinematic culture of the nineties and two thousands, a time which also featured a number of predictions of an apocalypse. The most perfect cinematic vehicle giving expression to this being, in the opinion of the author, the series The Leftovers. That, I would argue, is the prevailing unconscious zeitgeist. Those of us living today are indeed not only the literal but also the metaphorical leftovers." How, one might ask, has the psychotherapeutic discipline, tasked as the contemporary caretaker of the soul, answered this challenge? appliedjung.com/prozac-the-royal-road-to-misery/ Read more: healingsanctuary.proboards.com/thread/5168/prozac-royal-road-misery#ixzz66HxWpUfN

The term “discontinuation syndrome” is deliberately misleading, according to researchers writing in The British Journal of Psychiatry. Elia Abi-Jaoude and Ivana Massabki suggest that the term is just a euphemism for the more accurate term “withdrawal.” They write that the term “discontinuation syndrome” was coined with pharmaceutical industry support to downplay and discount the testimony of people who experienced adverse effects after stopping SSRI antidepressants. “The term discontinuation syndrome, which appears to have been established and publicized with the support of the pharmaceutical industries to minimize patient concerns regarding the use of SSRI medications, is misleading and should be abandoned in favor of the more appropriate term SSRI withdrawal,” they write. www.madinamerica.com/2020/01/researchers-antidepressant-withdrawal-not-discontinuation-syndrome/

Peter Gøtzsche and Anders Sørensen on trying to get a review of methods for safe antidepressant withdrawal published by the Cochrane Collaboration: "They sent us on a mission that was impossible to accomplish" to "protect the psychiatric guild." "About half of the patients on depression pills, or over 50 million people worldwide, will experience withdrawal symptoms when they try to come off them, and in half of these, the symptoms are severe. This dependency is a major reason why many people continue taking the pills for decades or even lifelong. A review of methods for safe withdrawal of depression pills would therefore be hugely important." "We describe here what happened when we tried to get a protocol for a Cochrane review approved. The process took two years and we did not succeed." www.madinamerica.com/2020/02/review-cochrane-wont-publish/

Suicide Warning on Antidepressant Label is Justified, Researchers SayResearchers confirm that the suicide warning for antidepressants is justified by the evidence and that claims that the warning is harmful lack support. In 2004 the FDA added a “black box” warning label to antidepressant prescriptions due to increased risk of suicide in children and adolescents taking the drugs. This came after evidence of higher suicide rates surfaced in placebo-controlled trials of the drugs. However, since then, the warning label has been controversial. Critics have suggested that it may have resulted in decreasing antidepressant prescriptions and increased suicide rates. A new study investigated these claims. Did the black box warning label cause harm by preventing antidepressant prescriptions to children? Not according to the researchers, who write: “The Black Box warning is rooted in solid data, whereas attempts to claim the warning has caused harm are based on quite weak evidence.” www.madinamerica.com/2020/03/suicide-warning-antidepressant-label-justified-researchers-say/Duty to Warn: Antidepressant Black Box Suicidality Warning Is Empirically Justified www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyt.2020.00018/full

National Boards of Health Are Unresponsive to Children Driven to Suicide by Depression Pills Peter C. Gøtzsche reports what happened, or rather did not happen, when he contacted National Boards of Health in eight countries with his serious concern that the use of depression pills in children is increasing and leads to more suicides, apart from Denmark where usage decreased by 41% in just six years because of two simple interventions. The continued official denial that these drugs cause suicide and that something substantial needs to be done is appalling. www.madinamerica.com/2020/03/children-driven-suicide-depression-pills/
