Is very short sighted to presume that drugs are the only treatment for depression. The chances are something else might help.. which means it is not 'treatment resistant' depression at all, maybe just 'drug treatment resistant'. Maybe there are multifactorial underlying causes for people's depression, which require a holistic approach. Something that seems to have completely evaded the researchers here. If drugs don't work, that certainly does not make the depression 'treatment resistant'.

Had this today with the psychiatrist. I was discussing meds shortages over Brexit and he said 'well if they run out you will just be prescribed another'. He seems to acknowledge the overreliance on drugs and the ability to become dependent on them physically and psychologically.
There is no point in expecting a doctor to encourage you to withdraw from a drug, money is involved. What if as a result of meds shortages they put me on a drug and it doesn't work? I don't want a sedating one either, I like having a natural sleep and being alert in the morning.
And of course when you are down to your lowest dose and it the smallest dosage you can get but still too much to come off all at once (whatever the doc says), it would be good from a safety point of view if a liquid solution was made available. That's another sneaky way of keeping people dependent on the drugs, you have no option but to split the last pill or crush it which results in uneven doses, when a liquid solution could be more measured and controlled (with a syringe), and less likely to cause unbearable withdrawal symptoms.
