It is the nature of God to not be found or known. The search will continue until that is discovered in direct experience. God is not to be found but can and will be recognized as Self at the end of the seeking. To realize Self… stop the search. Now!"

TAKE THE FIRST STEP RIGHT NOW
You can take the first step right now. Start listening to the voice in your head as often as you can. Pay particular attention to any repetitive thought patterns, those old gramophone records that have been playing in your head perhaps for many years. This is what I mean by "watching the thinker," which is another way of saying: listen to the voice in your head, be there as the witnessing presence.When you listen to that voice, listen to it impartially. That is to say, do not judge. Do not judge or condemn what you hear, for doing so would mean that the same voice has come in again through the back door. You'll soon realize: there is the voice, and here I am listening to it, watching it.
This I am realization, this sense of your own presence, is not a thought. It arises from beyond the mind.yourself as the witness of the thought. A new dimension of consciousness has come in. As you listen to the thought, you feel a conscious presence - your deeper self - behind or underneath the thought, as it were. The thought then loses its power over you and quickly subsides, because you are no longer energizing the mind through identification with it.
When a thought subsides, you experience a discontinuity in the mental stream - a gap of "no-mind." At first, the gaps will be short, a few seconds perhaps, but gradually they will become longer. When these gaps occur, you feel a certain stillness and peace inside you. This is the beginning of your natural state of felt oneness with Being, which is usually obscured by the mind. With practice, the sense of stillness and peace will deepen. In fact, there is no end to its depth. You will also feel a subtle emanation of joy arising from deep within: the joy of Being.It is not a trancelike state. Not at all. There is no loss of consciousness here.
As you go more deeply into this realm of no-mind, as it is sometimes called in the East, you realize the state of pure consciousness. In that state, you feel your own presence with such intensity and such joy that all thinking, all emotions, your physical body, as well as the whole external world become relatively insignificant in comparison to it. And yet this is not a selfish but a selfless state. It takes you beyond what you previously thought of as "your self."
Instead of "watching the thinker," you can also create a gap in the mind stream simply by directing the focus of your attention into the Now. Just become intensely conscious of the present moment. This is a deeply satisfying thing to do.
In this way, you draw consciousness away from mind activity and create a gap of no-mind in which you are highly alert and aware but not thinking. This is the essence of meditation.

So, there is about the character of the Taoist sage as depicted by Zhuang Zhou, something of the fool. Because, the fool is the person, who doesn’t know enough to come in out of the rain, who doesn’t compete. Everybody else gets before him to the prizes, the material prizes of life and even to the spiritual prizes. The fool, you see, is the person who isn’t going anywhere. He sits by the road and go bree-bruu-bree-bubribrubribru... The fool is like a Mongolian idiot child who isn’t interested in survival. Who will take a plate of food and run his finger around in it and make a wonderful slosh with the stew and then watch it drip from the tip of his finger, he won’t eat for quite a while and he will play with it in all sorts of ways then his attention will be distracted by something else and he will chase after that, you see. So long as you don’t cross him (this is the case of the Mongolian idiot) he remains the most wonderfully friendly swinging kind of a cat, but he has no ambition, he doesn’t fight for himself. And nobody can ever get him to. So the fool has always been used as a kind of analog of the sage. As a Hindu verse which says sometimes naked sometimes mad, now as a scholar, now as a fool, thus they appear on Earth the free men. And if you read the biographies of the early life of Sri Ramakrishna or Sri Ramana Maharshi, they were absolutely wild.

BHAGAVAN'S DIALOGUE WITH AN AMERICAN LADY
The following questions were asked by an aristocratic-looking American lady. Bhagavan's answers are a succinct summary of his practical teachings.
Question: What is the truth that I have to attain? Please explain it and show it to me.
Bhagavan: What we have to attain and what is desired by everyone is endless happiness. Although we seek to attain it in various ways, it is not something to be sought or attained as a new experience.
Our real nature is the 'I' feeling which is experienced by everyone. It is within us and nowhere else.
Although we are always experiencing it, our minds are wandering, always seeking it, thinking in ignorance that it is something apart from us. This is like a person saying with his own tongue that he has no tongue.
Question: If this is so, why did so many sadhanas [spiritual practices] come to be created?
Bhagavan: The sadhanas came to be formed only to get rid of the thought that it [the Self] is something to be newly attained.
The root of the illusion is the thought which ignores the Self and which thinks instead, 'I am this body'. After this thought rises it expands in a moment into several thousand thoughts and conceals the Self. The reality of the Self will only shine if all these thoughts are removed. Afterwards, what remains is only Brahmananda [the bliss of Brahman].
Question: I am now sitting peacefully without the thought 'I am this body'. Is this the state of reality?
Bhagavan: This state must remain as it is without any change. If it changes after a while you will know that other thoughts have not gone.

REJECTION OF THOUGHTS ~ Sri Ramana Maharshi
Devotee: But you have often said that one must reject other thoughts when he begins the quest, but the thoughts are endless; if one thought is rejected, another comes and there seems to be no end at all.
Ramana: I do not say that you must go on rejecting thoughts. If you cling to yourself, say the I~thought, and when your interest keeps you to that single idea, other thoughts get rejected, automatically they vanish.
D. And so rejection of thoughts is not necessary?
Ramana: It may be necessary for a time or for some. You fancy that there is no end if one goes on rejecting every thought when it rises. No, There is an end. If you are vigilant and make a stern effort to reject every thought when it rises, you will soon find that you are going deeper and deeper into your own inner self, where there is no need for your effort to reject the thoughts.
D. Then it is possible to be without effort, without strain!
Ramana: Not only that, it is impossible for you to make an effort beyond a certain extent.
D. I want to be further enlightened. Should I try to make no effort at all?
Ramana: Here - it is impossible for you to be without effort. When you go deeper - it is impossible for you to make any effort.

What do you do to stop the thoughts?
There are so many practices. You have Vipassana meditation. You have pranayama. You have so many different methods to stop your thoughts. All of these methods are good to an extent. They make you sort of one pointed, but they will not stop your thoughts. This is why people who have been practicing pranayamas, breathing exercises, Vipassana meditation, even Zen meditation, and other forms of yoga meditation, have been practicing for years, and years, and years and years. Perhaps they have achieved a semblance of peace, but they have not become liberated, due to the fact that they are using methods, whether it is a koan, or it's watching your breath or your feelings, or whether it's changing your thoughts to something positive, whatever you've been doing, you're using your mind to do it. And your mind will always fool you. It will make you believe you're getting somewhere, you're becoming something great. But it's really the ego. It is the ego that is controlling the mind, and you are the ego, the ego trying to control the mind.
So again, what do you do to stop the thoughts? Absolutely nothing. Now why is the word nothing so important? You do absolutely nothing because in truth, everything is nothing. This is the reason you do nothing, to stop your thoughts. In reality there are no thoughts. There's no one trying to stop them. There's no liberation, there's no bondage.There's nothing. You're using the same nothing to stop your thoughts. Doing nothing, because you are nothing. Nothing plus nothing makes nothing. Can you see why I tell you to do nothing now? Because you're using your real nature when you do nothing. You are your Self. You are the absolute reality when you are nothing. Consequently when you are doing something to stop your thoughts, you're fooling yourself. Nothing will ever happen. But, like I say, you'll acquire a little peace. That's it. But by slowing yourself down, seeing nothing, hearing nothing, doing nothing, being nothing, your thoughts will stop completely, totally, absolutely, and as I mentioned before, you will feel beautiful happiness, peace of mind, bliss. You'll be free.

My soul is something I'm aware of. It is the thing that proved I was alive when I was on the palmeridone injection. While on it, I felt no happiness, affection, or affinity for anything in life. But my husband told me if I could just hold on to life it would get better. And it did. My soul increased its strength. I believe the desire to live---truly live with meaning.... That is the soul. It distinguishes us from other living beings. Mine is very strong. I went without meaning for quite some time. I searched and found it in a Holy Book. But mine is definitely there and it is very strong. That's how I know that even though the mountains of certainty crumble around me--- I and my loved ones will make it through.
